Epistemology is the theory of knowledge. Since ancient times philosophers have studied how we "know that" something is true and there are many schools of thought on the subject. The famous "did the tree fall in the forest" question is at the heart of the epistemology debate. Yesterday's post was tangentially related to epistemology. In fact, epistemology plays a key role in much of computer science and in particular in artificial intelligence.
