My name is Bob Hacker and this is the second blog with a Florida view on finance, technology and entrepreneurship. (Dan Rua at Inflexion Partners has the only other blog- Florida Venture Blog -that I know of that features a Florida-based writer discussing venture capital, startups and technology.) With my office in Miami and many of my banking and consulting clients in the Caribbean and Central America, I hope to bring an international perspective to these issues.
While the web has many excellent blogs on venture capital, startups and technology (see Brad Feld, Will Price, Marc Andreessen, My Way The Entrepreneur Network), bloggers tend to devote less space to strategy, and I hope to bring a strategic perspective to many of my posts . (One blog that consistently focuses on strategy is Startup Review, where case studies on interesting venture backed technology companies are presented.)
Lastly, I hope that this blog will encourage my students at Florida International University (and at other schools) to expand their knowledge of Web 2.0, finance, and entrepreneurship.
I manage a boutique firm in Miami--GH Capital Partners--that provides investment banking and strategic consulting services to companies in Florida, the Caribbean and Central America. (A free lunch to the first three people that figure out what GH stands for.) I am looking to expand my staff and add an analyst. I would be interested in hearing from people seeking full-time positions or internships with the following qualifications:
- bi-lingual Spanish/English
- degree in finance or accounting (either undergrad or graduate)
- strong Excel skills
- way above average intelligence
