The McKinsey Global Institute quantifies the inefficiency in the U.S. healthcare industry at $650 billion. In the article McKinsey analyzes per capita income and annual healthcare spending per capita for 15 advanced countries. The U.S. is off the chart (literally), as shown below, but Finland and France appear to warrant attention also.
Two additional parts to the analysis would have been helpful:
- Mortality rate by country or life expectancy
- Percentage of the population with health insurance
Wonder how much the inefficiency in the U.S. system is reduced if we have everybody insured.
