This morning as I was walking my golden retriever (no dog pictures) I came upon a nanny pushing a stroller with a two year old boy aboard. Nothing unusual so far-lots of nannies in my neighborhood, lots of children get the morning air and strollers are the preferred means of moving children around. What was unusual was that the two year old boy was using the nanny's cell phone to listen to music. When I queried the nanny on what he was doing she told me that one day he had found the music player on the cell phone and now could pick the music he listened to. This child brings new meaning to the expression "early adoptor".
I am very intrigued by the thoughts of what technology this boy will be using at 4 or 10 years old, if he masters the full functionality of the cell phone by 3. Imagine the insights into child psychology if the nanny/parents helped the boy to discover the camera in the phone. Then he learns to upload the pictures to Flickr and tells his 4 year old friends. Now we have social networks of four year olds. Can MacDonalds ads for 4 year old Flickr users be far behind. This whole notion is not far fetched. Technology adoption is moving faster than you think.
